Kirkcudbright is certainly one of the nicest places to visit in Scotland. It's a charming town, beautifully situated on the River Dee as it flows into the Solway Firth with tree covered hills rising behind it and surrounded by lovely countryside.

Kirkcudbright has fascinating history as far back as the sixth century; but in more recent years has become known as "Artist's Town" in Scotland. The beautiful scenery and exceptional light was the initial attraction of many famous artist's in the 1870's who made Kirkcudbright their home. Now there are many galleries, events and activities that attract people from near and far to participate in the town's rich heritage in the arts and music.

There are plenty of good restaurants and shops in Kirkcudbright itself as well as being located centrally for all there is to see and do in Galloway.

It's less than a five minute walk from the house to McLellan Castle, the waterfront and fishing boats, cafes and shops. There are also hiking/cycling trails in a beautiful wood right up the hill behind the house, or you can walk down the river to the sea.
